I have served as the County Attorney for Clearwater County since 2021. A native of northern Minnesota, I understand that life is just a little better up north. I value that this community believes in helping your neighbor, leading an honest life, and working hard. That is why my platform is based on a simple theory: Community. Integrity. Justice. My family is dedicated to public service. My husband, Cole, is a deputy for Beltrami County, and I have served this county as both County Attorney and a public defender. Cole and I feel privileged to be a part of this community and are committed to showing our dedication to the people through our work.
First, Community. I am dedicated to my role as a public servant, and to serving the people of Clearwater County. I believe that public safety should be built on relationships of earned trust between the people, law enforcement, and the judicial system. Since my appointment, my office has worked to build strong relationships with our law enforcement agents, department of human services, treatment providers, and partners in justice.
Second, Integrity. Although the office of County Attorney is a political appointment, I am not a politician. I am a lawyer who is dedicated to the belief that everyone deserves justice and that partisan politics have no place in the courtroom. I also believe that transparency within the office benefits the community. “Moral authority comes from following universal and timeless principles like honesty, integrity, treating people with respect.”
Lastly, Justice. I hope to continue the progress that we have made since my appointment. Since assuming office, we have navigated many difficult cases and the "new normal" of the pandemic. With my leadership we have started a DUI Court to hold repeat offenders responsible for their crimes while reducing the risk of recidivism. We have successfully tried several high-profile cases, including murder, criminal sexual conduct, and criminal vehicular homicide. The office has joined several multi-disciplinary teams, including ASART (Anishinaabe Sexual Assault Reponses Team), The Elder Justice Foundation's MDT, HAASTE, and the JDAI (juvenile justice collaborative). The office has made strong forward progress to ensure that the people of Clearwater are protected, offenders are held accountable, and justice is served.
When not at the office, I enjoy fishing, spending time with my husband and dogs, camping, and gardening.
